Wedding photography prices in India: an honest investment guide

Wedding photography prices in India range widely enough that the question itself is usually the wrong one. The better question is what you are paying for, and why two quotes for the same date can differ by a lakh or more.

We would rather explain the range honestly than hand you a number with no context behind it.

What actually moves the price

A quote is built from days, deliverables, and team size — not from the couple’s budget or the venue’s postcode, though both get blamed most often.

Days of coverage. A single-day reception costs less than a three-day wedding with a haldi, a mehndi, and a main ceremony. Each day needs its own planning, its own light study, its own editing hours afterward.

Team size. A solo shooter and a two-person team with a second angle for the mandap are different products. Candid coverage of both the bride’s and groom’s sides, at the same time, usually needs at least two photographers.

Photo versus film versus both. Cinematic film adds a videographer, sometimes a drone operator, and a longer post-production timeline. We plan and staff for 45 days on photographs and 60 on films, and that gap in complexity shows up in the quote.

Travel and destination weddings. A wedding in Udupi costs differently than the same brief flown to a resort in Europe. Travel, stay and extra days are covered as per the quote agreed with us, not buried in the base price.

What luxury actually buys you

At the upper end of the range, you are not paying for a better camera. Every serious studio uses comparable equipment. You are paying for three things: judgment under pressure, a team that has shot enough weddings to anticipate what happens next, and a post-production process that treats every frame with the same care as the hero shots.

We have shot weddings from an intimate Kannadiga ceremony in Udupi to a five-hundred-guest reception in Bangalore, and the difference in price between those two jobs is almost entirely about scale — not about how carefully either one is photographed.

Why we don’t publish a fixed price list

Every wedding we’ve shot — whether at a beach resort in Kundapura or a garden estate in Mangalore — has had a different shape. A fixed package forces your wedding into someone else’s mould. We would rather understand your day first: guest count, number of functions, whether you want film alongside photographs, whether the venue is local or a flight away. From there, the number is specific to you, not a rate card.

This is also why we ask to speak with couples before quoting. It takes fifteen minutes and saves both sides from a mismatched expectation later.

A note on value over time

Wedding photographs are one of the few things from your wedding day that outlast the day itself. The flowers wilt, the food is a memory, but the gallery is still there on your tenth anniversary. When couples ask us to justify an investment, this is usually the honest answer: you are not paying for four hours of shooting, you are paying for how those four hours read in twenty years.
