Meghna & Sarthak — Adyar Gardens, Mangalore

A wedding at Adyar Gardens, Mangalore

Meghna and Sarthak married in May at Adyar Gardens, one of Mangalore’s largest convention venues, just off NH-75. It is a venue built for scale — and the craft of photographing it well is finding the intimate frame inside the big one.

Working a large venue

Adyar Gardens can hold thousands, which means the photographer’s job is to compose out the crowd as often as in it: the bride alone in orange and gold temple jewellery, the brass lamp and marigold against the open-sky mandap, the welcome board with their names in the morning quiet. We arrived early to claim those frames before the day filled up.

A coastal Mangalore celebration

The wedding kept the warm, marigold-and-jasmine palette of the Karnataka coast, with the rituals held under a canopy of white flowers. Travelling down from Bangalore for it, we photographed the morning the way the venue deserves — patiently, and in colour built to be printed.
