Wedding venues along the Kundapura coast
North of Udupi, past Kaup and Malpe, the coast opens up into a quieter stretch around Kundapura — wide beaches and, increasingly, the resort infrastructure to host a wedding at real scale. We’ve covered the Udupi coastline in general in our Udupi wedding venues guide and the region’s beach venues more broadly in our guide to beach wedding venues in coastal Karnataka. This post stays specifically on Kundapura, anchored by a wedding we know well.
Why Kundapura is different from Kaup or Malpe
Kaup and Malpe, closer to Udupi town, tend to be smaller and more intimate as beach settings. Kundapura’s advantage is scale: long, quiet beaches paired with proper resort infrastructure — reliable power, catering, and enough rooms for outstation guests to matter for a multi-day wedding. It’s the stretch we point couples toward when a beach wedding needs to hold several hundred guests comfortably, not just a small gathering on the sand.
UVA Meridian Bay Resort & Spa: our anchor here
Samyuktha and Darshan married at UVA Meridian Bay Resort & Spa in Kundapura, a property that sits across thirty acres of garden and water in the Udupi district — one of the few venues on this stretch genuinely built for a destination wedding at full scale. Their ceremony was a morning-to-noon muhurtha held indoors, with an outdoor haldi earlier in the day, and it’s a good reference point for how a venue like this actually behaves across a wedding day.
The garden walks at UVA Meridian give a photographer real space to work with — enough distance to hold a couple small against tall trees, rather than the tighter framing a smaller coastal property forces on you. The banquet halls take colour and jasmine beautifully, which matters for a wedding built around brass, garlands, and gold silk. We arrived two days early to map the morning sun across the lawns, which is standard practice for us on any venue this size, so that by the time the rituals began we already knew which path would carry the light.
Reading indoor light on this stretch
The ceremony’s mandap hall, not the beach itself, did the heavy lifting for Samyuktha and Darshan’s wedding — window light through the hall, soft and slow-changing enough through the late morning that we could plan camera positions around it rather than chase it. This is a useful thing to know before booking a venue on this coast: an indoor mandap hall with good window light can outperform an open beach ceremony scheduled for the wrong hour, and it’s worth asking any venue how their indoor spaces are lit before assuming the beach itself will carry the ceremony.
Beachfront lawns versus town halls on this stretch
Kundapura’s venues broadly split into two categories: beachfront resort lawns, of the kind UVA Meridian offers, and smaller town-based halls further from the coast. A beachfront lawn gives you the sea as an unstaged backdrop and the space to host a large guest list with proper infrastructure behind it — the trade-off is that outdoor beach ceremonies are more exposed to weather and to the hard, flat light of a late-morning sun than an indoor space is. A town hall, by contrast, trades the sea view for more predictable, controlled conditions, which suits a family prioritising convenience for elderly guests over a destination feel. Neither is the wrong choice; it depends on how much your family wants the beach itself woven into the day versus simply nearby.
What to check before booking on this coast
As with any coastal venue, ask where the mandap or hall faces relative to the day’s light, and what the covered alternative looks like if the season turns — see our monsoon wedding guide if you’re considering a date outside the dry months. For a property the scale of UVA Meridian, also ask about guest logistics specifically: parking, shuttle arrangements, and how far accommodation blocks sit from the ceremony space, since a thirty-acre property can mean a genuinely long walk for elderly guests if rooms and ceremony are placed far apart.
Planning a Kundapura wedding
We know this stretch of coast well enough to tell you honestly how a given venue is likely to photograph at the hour your ceremony will actually happen. See more of our coastal work in the portfolio, read our wider guide to Udupi weddings, or check your date and we’ll walk you through what Kundapura specifically can offer your day.
